Gastronomy
Visiting Lake Garda and the Region Veneto you will discover tasty gourmet
products, which are deeply connected to local environment, culture and
traditions.
Among them DOC wines (Lugana, Custoza, Bardolino, Valpolicella, Amarone,
Soave), fine extra-virgin olive oil, which has obtained the
European Union DOP certification, fresh water fish (lavaret, trout,
sardine, carp) and thetypical polenta have a place of honour on all fine
tables. Highly appreciated and rare products such as truffles, whose
picking methods are handed from father to son, asparaguses and red chicory
have recently experienced a rediscovery. The city of Verona is the birthplace
of a national cake, the pandoro, produced by historic companies
(Melegatti, Bauli, Paluani), and of two more delicacies: the sbrisolona
tart and the sfogliatine biscuits. Here is a short list of appetizing
regional dishes you can taste in local restaurants and holiday farms: boiled
meat with pearà (sauce made with grated bread, beef-stock and pepper),
"pastissada de caval" (horse stew cooked inwine), gnocchi, tortellini,
rice with chicory, luccio pike with polenta.
